Canadian ZIP Code Database

What is a Canadian ZIP code database and why is one useful?

A Canadian ZIP Code Database is a database with an organized collection Canadian postal code data. Common fields included in a Canadian ZIP code database are the postal codes, city, province, area code, time zone, latitude, and longitude. Canadian ZIP code databases should be updated regularly, as the Canada Post (Poste Canada) updates its databases monthly.

A Canadian ZIP code database can be used by organization for many purposes. Some companies will use them to create a store/vendor finder on their company website. For this purpose a Canadian ZIP code database needs to include latitude and longitude coordinates to be effective.

At time of publication, there are about 43,000 Canadian ZIP codes in Canada's provinces. The Canada Post adds and removes postal codes from its Canadian ZIP code database on a regular basis, so companies looking to purchase postal code data should look for a database that has been updated within the last 30 days.

Canadian ZIP code databases can be downloaded in many different formats. These databases can easily be imported into any type of database, such as a SQL database, for custom use. ZIP code download has databases available in Access (.mdb), comma-separated vales (.csv), tab-delimited format, (.txt), and fixed-width format (.txt).
